A Letter from David & Betsy

Thank you so much for considering our family and reading our profile. We are an active family of five constantly seeking to learn, grow, and spend time together. We have three children, one adopted and two biological, and we are excited to complete our family by adopting once more!

About Us

We first met in our Kentucky hometown’s church and have been best friends since the age of twelve. We have a strong marriage based on a lasting friendship. The Army has taken us to Germany, Alabama, California, Japan, and Texas (where we live now). We love to travel, but parenting has been our favorite adventure. In 2014 we were blessed with the birth of our daughter Zoey and two years later, we were overjoyed to adopt our son, Simon. Two years after, we welcomed the birth of our second daughter, Edie. We are thrilled to now complete our family through adoption. We enjoy doing all sorts of things together: playing board games, bike rides, swimming, cooking, and especially exploring new places. We are excited to share our love for adventure and activity with your child.

Meet Betsy... David Says

Betsy is grounded, organized, joyful, and confident. She was an elementary school teacher for four years before she decided to volunteer full-time and later become a stay-at-home mom, which she loves and still does today. Betsy enjoys teaching our children everything from how to read to how to ride a bike. She’s excited to teach your child as well! Betsy likes to cook – her enchiladas are unbelievable. She also enjoys leading and participating in women’s Bible studies. In her free time, Betsy can be found reading, exercising, or Facetiming family and friends.

Meet David... Betsy Says

David is hard working, energetic, dependable, has a streak of goofiness, and has the ability to make me laugh, no matter the circumstance! He loves God and meets with the men of our church regularly. David works hard as an Army acquisitions officer and has many interesting hobbies, including virtual reality gaming, where he plays in a league with a group of friends; and woodworking. He is an incredible father; he loves activities with our children and makes it a point to take them out for one-on-one time.

Our Kids: Zoey, Simon and Edie

We have three wonderful children. Zoey is our nine-year-old ball of energy and fun. Zoey can speak, read and write in Japanese thanks to our overseas tour in Japan! Zoey still attends Japanese class here in Texas and loves LEGO, reading, and making up plays and skits. Simon is our super funny six-year-old! Simon has a lot of innate musical ability and Betsy is teaching him to play the piano. Simon is studying Spanish in a dual language program at school. In his free time he enjoys anything that has to do with cars or race tracks. Edie is our adventurous four-year-old. Edie’s favorite toys are her stuffed animals and baby dolls. She also loves doing crafts and collecting bugs. All three kiddos are thrilled to add another playmate to the mix. They play together constantly and look forward to doting on and helping to care for your baby.

Our Home in Texas

Our spacious two-story home has 4 bedrooms, set up with plenty of room for the crib, changing table, and rocking chair we have ready for your baby. We have a big backyard, where our kids enjoy sidewalk chalk, bubbles, and kicking a soccer ball. David uses our garage and driveway as a woodshop; his latest projects include a bench for our dining room, and a table for a friend. We have a community pool, library, and many parks just a short bike ride or walk from our home. We attend a church nearby that has many other adoptive families and we really enjoy meeting regularly with some of those families.

Our Promise

We promise to be excellent role models to your child, demonstrating hard work, integrity, and kindness. We have a strong faith in God and are committed to raising our children so that they develop their own relationships with Jesus as they mature. Open adoption has been such a gift for our family, adding more people to our lives to love and care about. We welcome a relationship with you, at your comfort level, and would be honored to share our lives with you and your child. We also promise to give your child diverse opportunities to learn and grow in his or her unique strengths and talents, with the goal that they grow to be a kind, responsible, well-rounded, and positive contributor to our world. We will love them dearly, support them as they learn, and encourage them in all that they do.

More About Our Family
Our Open Adoption with Simon's Birth Family

Since Simon's birth we have spoken openly about adoption with our children. We regularly highlight adopted characters in movies we watch and books we read and talk about how many people grow their families through adoption. We have an open adoption with Simon's birth family. Over the past 6 years, we have regularly shared pictures, cards, and news with one another. We have also enjoyed multiple visits with Simon's birth mother and birth grandparents. They are an important part of our extended family. Should you wish to have an open adoption, we would be happy to include you in similar ways, as we grow and get to know one another and what works for all of us!

Fun Facts About Us

Of the six wooden tables and desks in our home, David built 5 of them! He loves working on live-edge wooden pieces and is super talented!

Betsy falls asleep nearly every night while learning on a language app on her phone. Most recently she has focused on Spanish.

Four Things We Love About Our Community

1. Our neighborhood pool! We go at least once a week in the hot Texas summers.
2. Diversity! We live in a predominantly Hispanic community with lots of people from different backgrounds and cultures.
3. Texas BBQ! There are so many great BBQ spots in our area, we want to try them all.
4. The schools! We walk to our children's school most mornings, Simon attends our school's dual language Spanish program and Zoey's attends Japanese supplementary school once a week. We love the education options in our city!

Our Family Traditions

We decorate for every holiday and have a bag of holiday-themed books we pull out for each holiday to read with our children.

We eat dinner at the table as a family nearly every night.

We leave our Christmas tree up until at least New Years each year, David especially loves the ambiance it gives our home.

On the weekends we enjoy pizza and a movie and sometimes we set up our indoor fort for "camp nights" with our kiddos.

Homemade pumpkin pie and roasted pumpkin seeds are a MUST for Halloween.
